About me
When i first started my counselling training i had no idea the impact that it would have on me!
I wanted to be a counsellor so i would be more equipped to help others and what the training enabled me to really discover was who i was, and for me to help others i needed to truly understand myself. I realised that some of what i had learnt in my childhood had impacted how i was living as an adult.
Counselling gave me an insight to who i was, how i behaved and why, it helped me to challenge my negative thoughts and have compassion for myself to understand where they came from.
There were many struggles through my journey as changing behaviour patterns can be difficult especially if they have been with you forever. For instance if you brush your teeth with your right hand and then you change it to your left hand how does that feel?
Through my own journey i can understand how difficult counselling can be and also how amazing it can be, to be free to be who you really are and want to be rather than the constraints that limit you.
Counselling Experience
I have worked in the charity sector working with vulnerable people for 20 years and started my counselling journey in 2014 working with a charity in Brighton providing low cost counselling to the people in the community. I have worked with a large carers organisation as a generic counsellor and i have been in private practice since 2021.
I am a counsellor for rehab4u in Eastbourne who provide support to individuals and their families with a brain injury and i am the founder and director of a not for profit Community interest company supporting families and carers who are supporting a loved one with a substance misuse issue.
I have personal experience of a cancer diagnosis and lived experience of supporting a family member with an Acquired brain injury.
